Overview:

Fantastic Four #19, published in October 1963, is a comic book issue written by Stan Lee, with artwork by Jack Kirby. This issue features the Fantastic Four traveling back in time to ancient Egypt, where they face off against the villain Rama-Tut, an earlier incarnation of Kang the Conqueror.

Plot Summary:

The story begins with the Fantastic Four experiencing strange ailments: Reed Richards' stretching abilities weaken, Johnny Storm’s flames become erratic, Ben Grimm is stuck in his human form, and Susan Storm struggles to turn invisible. Reed suspects that a cure for their ailments might lie in the distant past. He recalls a historian's discovery of a mysterious figure from ancient Egypt who had futuristic technology. Believing this figure, Rama-Tut, may hold the key, Reed decides to travel back in time to ancient Egypt, using Doctor Doom's time machine from a previous adventure.

Arriving in ancient Egypt, the Fantastic Four are captured by Rama-Tut's forces. Rama-Tut reveals himself as a time traveler from the 30th century who had journeyed to the past and used his advanced technology to conquer Egypt, ruling as a godlike figure. The villain subdues the Fantastic Four with his "Ultra-Diode Ray," which strips them of their powers and places them under his control.

While under Rama-Tut’s command, Reed, Ben, Johnny, and Sue are forced into slavery. However, they manage to escape when Ben Grimm, who has been reverted to his Thing form due to the intensity of the Egyptian sun, breaks free from his shackles. The Fantastic Four regain their powers and lead a revolt against Rama-Tut. In the ensuing battle, the villain attempts to flee, using his time ship to escape into the future.

After defeating Rama-Tut, the Fantastic Four return to the present, though they are left wondering about the nature of the time traveler and his potential connection to Doctor Doom, whom Reed speculates might be a descendant or alternate version of Rama-Tut. The team vows to remain vigilant against future threats as they continue their adventures.

Fantastic Four #20: The Mysterious Molecule Man! (1961)

Overview:

Fantastic Four #20, published in November 1963, is a comic book issue written by Stan Lee, with artwork by Jack Kirby. This issue features the Fantastic Four encountering a new villain, the enigmatic Molecule Man, who possesses the power to control all matter.

Plot Summary:

The story opens with the Fantastic Four conducting an experiment at their Baxter Building headquarters when an unexpected event shakes the city. A mysterious figure, later revealed to be the Molecule Man, appears in New York, wielding the power to manipulate molecules at will. He begins transforming objects and even altering the environment, creating chaos across the city.

The Fantastic Four, alerted to the danger, confront the Molecule Man. Despite their combined efforts, they are easily overpowered by his ability to control every aspect of their surroundings. Reed Richards deduces that the Molecule Man’s powers are nearly limitless, making him one of the most dangerous foes they've ever encountered. However, the villain reveals that his newfound abilities were the result of a freak accident involving an alien device that granted him mastery over all forms of matter.

After suffering several defeats, the Fantastic Four regroup and come up with a new plan. Reed theorizes that the Molecule Man’s powers are limited by the energy of the device that initially gave him his abilities. They aim to exploit this weakness, but first, they must protect themselves from his attacks. Susan Storm, using her invisibility and force fields, manages to shield the team long enough for Reed to formulate a strategy.

In a final confrontation, the team manages to lure the Molecule Man into a trap. Reed uses a device to drain the villain’s powers, reverting him back to his normal state. The alien entity that originally empowered the Molecule Man appears and takes him away, stating that humanity is not yet ready for such control over matter.

The Fantastic Four reflect on their narrow victory, realizing how dangerous unchecked power can be. Though the Molecule Man is no longer a threat, they remain on alert, knowing that they will face increasingly powerful foes in the future.
